Moving your Gmail into an IMAP mailbox
This is the first version of the importer. It explains how the move works and, on the folders page, shows what it finds in a small sample export. There is no upload and no mailbox connection yet.
- 1
Download your mail from Google Takeout
Ask Google Takeout for a copy of your mail and take the mailbox file it offers. Keep the download safe, because it holds every message you have.
- 2
We read the folder names in that file
Every message carries the folder names Google gave it. We count the messages in each folder, so you can see exactly which folders will be made before anything moves.
- 3
Your mail is copied into your IMAP mailbox
When the move runs, each folder becomes a real folder in your mailbox and every message lands in the folders it came from. Your Google account is left as it is.
